Teeth Whitening

When your smile starts to lose its signature shine, contact Southern Cross Dental about our teeth whitening services. This is the dental process of enhancing the natural color and shading of your teeth. Drs. Navid and Faranak Rahimpour will meet with you to discuss all the whitening options. To learn more, contact our office in Colorado Springs, CO.

Before we discuss the teeth whitening process, it’s vital that we go over how teeth are stained. Avoiding these factors brightens your smile naturally. It’s important to note that teeth also dull as we age. This can’t be avoided but other aspects can. The first thing to evaluate is your diet. Foods that are high in tannic acids, like grapes, can stain your teeth. You should also avoid drinks like tea, coffee, and soda. If you do drink these, take sips of water throughout. The water helps clean off the staining elements from your other drink. If changing your diet doesn’t help, teeth whitening is the solution for you.

Your appointment with your Colorado Springs, CO, dentist is very straightforward. It’s a chance for you to ask any questions while learning about the different whitening options.

The most popular choice is the At-Home Whitening. Drs. Navid or Faranak Rahimpour takes an impression of your teeth. They use this to make customized trays for you. At your home, you’ll insert the whitening gel into the tray and then insert it in your mouth. They make a schedule for you to follow so you achieve optimal results. In-Office Whitening is another possible choice. This option offers the brightest smile. UV Light is used to brighten your smile for one hour. It’s very relaxing, and patients can read, watch TV, or even nap.

Teeth Whitening

Everyone likes to be able to present their brightest and whitest smile. At Southern Cross Dental, many patients ask our staff about over the counter products, and have tried them with underwhelming results.  Instead of winging it with retail products, come see us for a consultation and get your own custom whitening system!

During a consultation, your dentist will examine the level of staining on your teeth and be able to tell you what kind of results you can expect from the whitening system. To whiten your teeth at home, you will be fit with custom whitening trays made from molds of your teeth.  For a treatment, apply the whitening gel directly onto the trays and fit them over your teeth.  Your dentist will advise how often you should treat at home and how long each treatment can last.  Following dentist’s instructions, patients have seen this system whiten their smiles 4-8 shades!

Teeth Whitening

Patients are always asking the doctors and staff of Southern Cross Dental about how they can get their whitest and brightest smile, and have often tried over the counter products with mixed results.  The best way to see results from whitening is to have custom trays made and follow dentist instructions for application of whitening gel.

When a patient wants to begin the teeth whitening process, we begin with a consultation.  Based on the level of staining, a dentist can project what results can be expected.  Then, impressions are taken of the upper and lower teeth are taken.  These impressions are sent to a lab and used to create trays customized the patient’s teeth and bite.  On a second visit when the custom trays have arrived, a dentist or staff member shows the patient how to fill the trays with whitening gel and then fit them over the teeth.  Whitening treatments can be received in the office and monitored by a dentist, and completed at home following instructions from the dentist.

Extrinsic Stains and Removal

Extrinsic tooth stains refer to the staining of tooth’s enamel. These are usually caused by consuming foods and beverages that contain pigments such as coffee, wine, or tea. Though many stains can be permanent, extrinsic stains can be removed with professional whitening treatments or a simple cleaning by our doctors at Southern Cross Dental.

Brushing after every meal can help prevent extrinsic stains, but because enamel comes in contact with all foods and beverages you may need a little assistance from whitening toothpaste. If this isn’t enough, a professional cleaning will work well to remove stains from the tooth’s surface. At Southern Cross Dental, we provide whitening treatments as a service to patients who need to enhance their smile. If you are self-conscious because of tooth discoloration, call us to discuss your treatment options.

If you have questions or concerns regarding tooth discoloration or whitening treatment, please give us a call. Teeth Whitening Perks

How many of us get a confidence boost when a stranger gives us a compliment? Have you ever paid attention to how much of a positive effect this has on your self-esteem? The same positive feeling can result from teeth whitening. Teeth-whitening is an excellent way to restore the natural color of your teeth or even make them whiter than your natural color if you would like. Here Southern Cross Dental, our doctors can help you do just that.

With all of the lifestyle habits and environmental factors that have the ability to stain our teeth on a daily basis, even proper maintenance sometimes leave them a little dull. Fortunately, through our whitening system, your pearly whites can revive their shine. In addition, teeth-whitening can also take years off of your appearance. This is because as we age, over time, our teeth darken and can become yellow, brown, or even develop a green or gray tint (which may be due to heredity and/or eating habits). Your smile speaks volumes about who you are and leaves an everlasting impression, so it’s only natural that you want it to be as radiant as possible.

Cosmetic Dentistry Defined

From subtle changes to major repairs, at Southern Cross Dental we offer a variety of procedures to improve your smile. While traditional dentistry addresses the health of your teeth and gums, cosmetic dentistry focuses on the appearance of your teeth, mouth, and smile as a whole. Today, cosmetic dentistry is more popular than ever, from whitening and shaping to closing spaces and replacing teeth. But before you decide to undergo any cosmetic procedure, it’s important to know what you can expect during the process.

At Southern Cross Dental, some of our cosmetic procedures include teeth whitening as well as applying veneers. Teeth whitening is a common and popular chemical process that brightens teeth that have become discolored or stained. Depending on the patient’s preference, this can be performed by one of our doctor’s in-office or in the comfort of your own home. Veneers, on the other hand, are used on teeth with uneven surfaces or are chipped, discolored, oddly shaped, unevenly spaced or crooked. They are thin pieces of porcelain or plastic placed over the front teeth to change the color or shape of your teeth.

Show Off Your Smile

With selfies and instant photo sharing taking over the internet, our doctors at Southern Cross Dental want you to have a camera-ready smile at all times. With a variety of cosmetic services to choose from, we can enhance your smile anyway you’d like. However, if there is any reason you can’t go the cosmetic route at this moment, we will provide you with these tips that will give you a photogenic smile no matter what.

  • Be natural – when it’s picture time, smile gently. That way, your face looks relaxed. Your mouth opens slightly, and your lower lip matches the curve of your upper teeth.

  • Check your teeth and gums – getting your smile camera-ready sometimes calls for a little behind the scenes prep work. If your pearly whites have yellowed with age, try an over-the-counter whitening product or pay us a visit! Also, don’t forget about taking care of your gums. They play a critical role in your nice smile. So keep them in good shape by brushing, flossing, and rinsing with a mouthwash every day.

  • Practice – your perfect smile may not happen overnight, but if you have a big photo event like a wedding or a graduation coming up, it doesn’t hurt to try out your grin in front of the mirror!

Tips For Keeping White, Bright Teeth

Keeping teeth white can seem tough when you are brushing and flossing as you should, but aren’t seeing much improvement. This is why Southern Cross Dental of Colorado Springs, CO wants to inform our patients of tips and tricks for keeping a whiter smile.

To get a head start on whiter teeth, schedule a consultation with us for professional whitening. We have both in-office and take-home treatments for your convenience. Our professionally accessed whitening systems are safe and often result in dramatic differences.

To keep stains away at home, brushing your teeth three times per day is ideal. Plaque forms mere hours after brushing. Plaque is a sticky substance that can hold in stain-causing debris if not brushed away. Make sure to floss every day, as well, as plaque and other debris form between teeth, too.

Dark foods and drinks like blueberries, coffee, cola, and soy sauce can discolor teeth. When surface stains penetrate the enamel and darken the dentin, this is what discolors the whole tooth. It is a good idea to rinse your mouth after consuming dark foods and drinks. For dark drinks, using a straw will often let the liquid skip over the front teeth altogether and limits the amount of time the liquid is touching your other teeth.

To find out more tips on keeping white, bright teeth or to schedule a whitening consultation, call Southern Cross Dental of Colorado Springs, CO at (719) 471-1717 or visit our website, www.southerncrossfamilydentistry.com.

Options for Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry is a very popular desire for people. Keeping our smile looking good is usually a top priority of our aesthetic appearance. Here at Southern Cross Dental, we offer several options for our patients in the Colorado Springs, CO area looking to improve the look of their teeth.

Inlays and onlays are often referred to as partial crowns. They are made of porcelain and restore a tooth that has a little less damage to it than one needing a crown. Inlays restore the inside of the chewing surface. Onlays restore the same area, plus one or more cusps of the tooth. Inlays and onlays are durable and long-lasting. We also offer crowns for more extensive damage. Being made of porcelain, inlays, onlays, and crowns restore your teeth for a natural-looking smile.

Dental veneers are available to our patients who want to create an attractive smile without major surgery. Veneers are thin, porcelain shells placed over your teeth to fix the look of gaps, cracks, discoloration, and misshapen teeth. They are stain-resistant, so white and bright teeth are possible for a long time with good care.

To whiten teeth, we offer in-office bleaching and custom take-home whitening trays. Professional whitening is the best route to go for safe, effective whitening. Our whitening systems often produce fast and dramatic results.

Teeth Whitening System Recommended by Southern Cross Dental

Dr. Navid Rahimpour, DDS and Dr. Faranak Rahimpour, DDS of Southern Cross Dental offer a whitening system patients in the Colorado Springs, CO area can take home to whiten their teeth with fast results.

Patients who have staining due to personal habits, medications, or normal wear and tear can benefit from the take-home whitening system we use. It is a customized approach so that the results are unique to each patient’s individual needs. When the trays are ready on your second visit, your dentist will check to make sure they fit properly. Depending on your current level of staining and the level of whitening that you desire, the process will vary. Whitening gel is put inside of the trays and they are worn for a couple of weeks either twice a day for thirty minutes or overnight. Your dentist will talk with you to come up with a plan that will best fit your condition and your lifestyle.

Bad Breath

The topic of bad breath can be tough to confront, whether it’s yours or someone else’s. And, whether or not you know you have it, it’s always a good idea to take steps against bad breath—as they are often one in the same with good dental hygiene.

Most bad breath can be traced to a source in the oral cavity, whether it’s trapped food particles or potent beverage residue, bacterial and plaque buildup, unclean dental prosthetics, gum disease, or even cavities. Many of our patients here at Southern Cross Dental regularly ask us what they can do to prevent bad breath.  Besides completing all necessary dental work and consistently undergoing regular exams, there are a number of steps you can take to reduce bad breath on your own.
  • Drink plenty of water: Drinking water helps flush away food and beverage residue. It also keeps your teeth and gums hydrated, which inhibits bacteria growth.
  • Reduce intake of coffee and alcohol: Both substances can contribute to suborn breath and dehydration.
  • Abstain from all tobacco products: Cigarettes, pipes and chewing tobacco all contribute to fouls breath and other periodontal issues that feed into the problem.
  • Brush, floss and use alcohol-free mouthwash every day: Good oral hygiene controls bacteria and prevents a number of dental problems. Your at-home hygiene efforts are extremely important in keeping your smile beautiful and fresh.

Periodontal Health

Caring for your teeth is an essential part of maintaining good oral health, but your gums also play an important role in your health, and proper care is crucial. Gum disease can be a serious detriment to your oral health and overall wellness, and at our office, Dr. Navid Rahimpour and Dr. Faranak Rahimpour provides the type of regular periodontal care and checkups you need to maintain peak health and prevent gum disease.

With periodontal disease responsible for 75 percent of all adult tooth loss cases in the United States, it is critical to check for and treat periodontal issues when they first arise. Periodontal disease is an infection of the gums that starts when a build-up of plaque on your teeth hardens surrounding gums. In its early stages, this gum disease is gingivitis, but if it is left untreated, it becomes periodontis. Periodontis can destroy your gum tissue and lead to tooth loss. Periodontis can even result in a loss of bone mass in your jawbone, and heart disease, diabetes and stroke have also been linked to poor periodontal health.

The state of your gums affects the health of your entire body, so come to Southern Cross Dental in Colorado Springs, CO to receive periodontal cleanings and treatment. It is easier to prevent gum disease or treat it early on than to reverse the effects of periodontis. Call (719)471-1717 to schedule an appointment. Teeth Whitening

When staining agents such as coffee, wine or acidic foods are able to penetrate the enamel of the teeth, it can be difficult to return to the original teeth shade through brushing and flossing alone. Unlike ineffective, over the counter whitening strips that are messy and tend to slide off teeth, in-office professional whitening provided by our team here at Southern Cross Dental whitens teeth quickly and effectively.

Having your teeth whitened with us provides a number of benefits that change the way you think about your smile. The results of this simple procedure can help you feel more confident about your smile and encourage you to show it off, inspiring positive impressions everywhere you go.  We are especially happy to offer teeth whitening as it prompts our patients to take even better care of their teeth to maintain their results.
