What is a Dental Implant Procedure Like?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants may be an option for people who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason. At Southern Cross Dental, the dental implant procedure is a team effort between you and Dr. Navid Rahimpour DDS, or Dr. Faranak Rahimpour DDS. Depending on your specific condition and the type of implant chosen, here at Southern Cross Dental we will create a treatment plan tailored to meet your needs.

The process of getting implants requires a number of visits over several months. X-rays and impressions (molds) are taken of the jaw and teeth to determine bone, gum tissue, and spacing available for an implant. While the area is numb, the implant will be surgically placed into the bone and allowed to heal and integrate itself for up to six months. Depending on the type of implant, a second surgery may be required in order to place the “post” that will hold the artificial tooth in place. With other implants the post and anchor are already attached and placed at the same time.

If you are considering dental implants, schedule a consultation to discuss your options. Tooth Restoration Options in Colorado Springs, CO

Restoring weakened teeth is what will extend their life and keep a healthy mouth. Here at Southern Cross Dental of Colorado Springs, CO, we have several options for restoration. Whether there is a chipped tooth, a crack, decay, or a missing tooth, we have options for our patients.

Fillings are available for cavities and also for fixing cracked or chipped teeth. Tooth-colored resin can be used to be shaped over the imperfection, restoring its strength. Fillings are long-lasting and durable.

Crowns, inlays, and onlays are available for teeth that have a bit more damage. Inlays fix the inside of the chewing surface, onlays can fix the entire chewing surface, and a crown is a cap that goes over the entire tooth. These fixtures restore and protect teeth for a long time.

Dental implants are restorations for teeth that need to be replaced, root included. Implants are a great option for replacement because they are permanent. With good care, a dental implant can last a lifetime.

Dental bridges are another option for tooth replacement. Bridges replace a missing tooth by creating a bridge across the gap. They use crowns on adjacent teeth to hold the replacement in the open space. Bridges are a popular option and can last for over fifteen years.

We also offer full and partial dentures. Dentures are great for those who want a removable option. They can be placed conventionally or immediately.
